“I replaced my iPhone 4 or iPhone 4S screen with a new one and the now the cable is too short. What do I do?”
We know this is a bit frustrating. This is a common question and we get it a lot. Take a look at the photo below:
Cable is too short, here’s why.
The cable in this photo is too short. Why? It’s because it has been pinched between the LCD and the frame. Compare the photo with the one below. When you push the cable through the hole, make sure the cable goes all the way through. Notice I said push not pull. Guide the cable through but DO NOT PULL it! If you pull the cable it will tear, and you’ll be out of luck. That cable cannot be mended, glued, or soldered back together and you will have rendered your new screen pretty much useless.
Take a look at the photo below. This is what you want it too look like.
Cable is too short, the correct way it should be.
Torn digitizer cable
What happens when you pull on the cable that is too short? Take a look at the photo below. Notice the top picture. The cable has been ripped in half while the photo below is how the ribbon looks when you receive it brand new. If the screen lights up but there is no touch function, then this is why.
Hopefully this saves you some time, headache and frustration. The next the time the cable is too short, check and make sure it has not been pinched between the frame and LCD.
Good news for all you iPhone repair Do-It-Yourself guys and gals. The iPhone 5 front glass should be really easy to replace.
How easy will it be to do an iPhone 5 repair?
Remember back to repairing the iPhone 3GS front glass where all you needed is a screwdriver and a suction cup? This is pretty much all you’ll need if your going to replace the front assembly on the iPhone 5. The iPhone 5 opens from front-to-back, just like the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS. Replacing a cracked screen on an iPhone 5 is going to be easier than ever. That’s good news!
Why does my iPhone 4 have a poor WiFi signal reception after my repair?
We’ve gotten this question quite a few times, “I replaced the screen on my iPhone 4. Everything works but now I have poor a poor WiFi signal reception. What’s wrong?”
What could be causing poor WiFi signal reception in my iPhone 4?
Take a look at the photo below.
The EMI shield that covers all the cables need to be on. If you have neglected to put back the shield cover then that will be part of the poor wifi signal reception problem.
The top center screw which happens to be the longer of other 5 screws needs to be present. That screw not only holds down the EMI shield but a little silver connector on the EMI shield to the logic board.
If that screw or the little silver connector is missing, you will have a weak or poor WiFi signal reception on your iPhone 4.

The iPhone 4 proximity sensor is suppose to detect when your face is against the glass and turn off the screen, so that you don’t inadvertently press buttons or accidentally mute your caller. Problem is sometimes the screen still lets in some light confusing the sensor into thinking it’s not being covered. What we’ve noticed is this problem is inconsistent. Some sensors seem to be more sensitive than others. Here’s a pretty simple fix we’ve been using with high success to alleviate the problem.
What you’ll need is…
Small razor blade or x-acto knife
iPhone 4 proximity sensor fix instructions:
Make two small rectangles out of the electrical tape. Make them small enough to cover up the sensors shown below. Figure 1.
Cut two smaller rectangles inside each of the two rectangles you made in step 1. Figure 1.
Take the first completed cover and place it over the proximity sensor fix Figure 2.
Take the second completed cover and place it over the proximity sensor fix. Figure 3.
Reassembly your iPhone 4 and that should take care of the issue.

If you purchased a cheap iPhone 4 Glass replacement on eBay, you will not be able to fix your broken iPhone 4 glass. You’ll need to purchase the complete screen with the frame glass and digitizer together. The reason is the glass and the LCD is glued together and you won’t be able to separate the LCD without breaking it. Trust us we already tried. So it is impossible to just get the glass screen and fix the iPhone 4. Take it from us, don’t purchase just the glass and digitizer. You will regret it. Unlike the iPhone 3G or 3GS, if you dropped your iPhone 4 and shattered the front glass, unfortunately you’ll need a complete front replacement with the LCD. There’s no way around it.
Many customers ask why we don’t sell just the iPhone 4 Glass/Digitizer here’s why. You can’t fix your iPhone 4 with just the glass. You need the frame, the glass digitizer, and the LCD all together as one piece. We won’t sell you something that won’t get the job done. Period.
